Although the decision has been made that the International North Sea Tournament should come to an end, five of the participating nations are working towards devising a new International Tournament, the name of which is likely to be the "International Pétanque Challenge".

The outline produced so far is to hold an annual Tournament the aims of which will be to provide a high standard of competition in preparation for World and European Championships which in turn will improve the standards of play within the participating nations. Andrew Lloyd

Five teams would represent each of eight nations and the categories would be Seniors (Men), Seniors (Ladies), Espoirs (Men), Espoirs (Ladies) and Juniors.

It would be the intention to hold the Tournament in the same central location each year for a specified period, thus increasing the possibility of sponsorship and reducing the costs.
